I'm serious.

What the hell?? I received this letter in the mail today from the DMV...

WARNING LETTER

Dear California Driver,

Drivers with crashes and traffic convictions on their records are at a greater risk of causing future crashes. Your recent record of bad driving (see below) places you at increased risk of causing crashes, injury and death. We do not want you to suffer those consequences and want to help you avoid them.

We understand that you may believe you are a good driver, and yet your driving record is much worse than the average California driver. While you may be good and safe driver most of the time, your record reflects at least momentary lapses in driving judgment. At highway speeds, a moment of carelessness can become a tragedy. Good, caring people who make careless decisions while driving can cause injury or death.

In our effort to urge you to drive safer, we are offering you a choice. You can choose to prevent further action from DMV by avoiding additional traffic convictions and by not causing any crashes. However, if you choose to continue your unsafe driving, the penalties will increase and eventually lead to probation, suspension or revocation of your driving privilege.

We believe you are capable of making a change and becoming a safer driver, but it is up to you to do so. If you do not want to change, your driving will continue to present a risk to yourself and other road users. If you want to change and become a safer, more responsible driver, you can. We hope that you will decide to change, but the choice is yours.

Department of Motor Vehicles
Division of Driver Safety

Wow. Just to clarify...the "see below" was a list of my convictions. There were two. One was a cell phone ticket, and the other was a a stop sign ticket.

My first Dodger's game!

How I got this far without ever going to an LA Dodgers game boggles the mind. The stadium is literally 2 blocks from my house! I drank too much, ate too much, lost my voice from screaming obscenities and laughed so hard today my abs are sore. So. Much. Fun.
It's amazing how fun synchronized standing can be after a few beers...

Dodger Dogs and garlic fries...

Life is good.

John Luke Eastman

is what my walls are missing.

He refers to his style as "the 5th dimension" or "beautiful distortion". The qualities he seeks to impart through his works are fluidity of movement, a feeling of spatiality, weightlessness and beautiful color. Many of his works have messages from the scripture written on them.

Oh to be wealthy enough to afford real art....until then, blogging about it will have to do...

“AND A GREAT PORTENT APPEARED IN HEAVEN, A WOMAN CLOTHED WITH THE SUN, WITH THE MOON UNDER HER FEET, AND ON HER HEAD A CROWN OF TWELVE STARS…”

“THEN I SAW A NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH… FOR THE FIRST HEAVEN AND THE FIRST EARTH HAD PASSED AWAY, AND THE SEA WAS NO MORE. AND I SAW THE HOLY CITY NEW JERUSALEM COMING DOWN OUR OF HEAVEN FROM GOD, PRERARED AS A BRIDE ADORNED.”

Fever Ray

This video was sent to me by a friend purely for aesthetic enjoyment...but 2 seconds into watching it I'm thinking it sounds alot like The Knife...

I was right! Turns out Fever Ray is the solo project of Karin Dreijer Andersson, who is one half of The Knife (the other half is her brother Olof Dreijer). I remember reading somewhere that she was taking a break to have her second child. It sounds like she used her time wisely. Here's an excerpt from a bio I found online...

"She composes best in that state any new parent will recognise, awake but exhausted, where reality blurs into imagination and ideas flutter in and out. “Half of what the songs are about is the subconscious,” she says, “ideas of things happening. A lot of it is like daydreaming, dreaming when you’re awake, but tired; a lot of stories come from that world. I try to write when I‘m in that state - I’m very bad at remembering later, so I have to do it right away.”

I love that idea. Most new moms don't get anything positive from the exhaustion that comes from just giving birth. What a magical time for her giving and nurturing in so many constructive ways not only to her newborn but also to the whole world. And when most just get a baby book, some photographs and maybe a few home videos, her little one will have this album to mark their entrance into existence. Amazing.

Why am I such a softie for large crowds of people doing stuff like this??

Ronald Jenkees

This kid is outta control. Do you hear that? Shhhh....listen closely. That's the sound of my mind being blown. Seriously cross yourselves right now and give thanks to youtube for bestowing upon us little blessings like this guy. Such a positive and sweet disposition and so very talented. I have a feeling he's got big things coming his way...

What? Stay crunchy? Yes I will Ronald. Yes. I will.

It was really hard for me to choose which of his videos to post here. Check out more of his stuff when you have a second!

Freedom

I've decided to add shakers to my "favorite things to hear in music" list. More shakers! Lots and lots of shakers! Listen for them, point them out to strangers, buy them for your mom...the possibilities are truly endless with shakers and I CAN'T GET ENOUGH.

How epic was this video??

This song came out when I was 11. After I saw the music video, I distinctly remember being absolutely convinced my destiny was to be a tortured lip syncing supermodel. Being the height genes were stacked against me (I'm 5'1), I was left to burn jackets, seductively slide down walls, and sing inside my turtle neck sweaters over the years with no one watching. Not nearly as effective. The cold hard truth is there can only be one Christy, Naomi, Tatjana, Cindy and Linda. But I do have to say...being so affected at such a young age by these super beauties is partially what led me where I am today doing what I'm doing. So...thank you ladies. In the words of Bill Withers, you do what you do, and you do it good.
