Thomas Hicks

This montage is from 2007...

His most recent work is this music video he directed for the band Animal Kingdom...

It's really quite touching, albeit a bit on the dark side. I think it's the Michael Myers masks that freak me out a little.

I wanna see...

Isaiah Zagar, a South Philly artist is now the subject of an award winning documentary by his son Jeremiah.

It will be released on DVD in the States September 29th, 2009.

There's a new species at Bristol Zoo.

This truly breaks my heart.

After 26 years and over 2 dozen emmys one of my favorite childhood programs has been canceled...

Due to the economy, PBS didn't have enough money to renew Reading Rainbow's broadcast rights. So so sad.

A couple songs I was feelin' today...

and if you can sit still during this one there is something seriously wrong with you..

My new obsession.

If you're anything like me you'll be spending way too much time playing around on this page. It's like an online lite brite synthesizer beat machine and it's oodles of fun.

Hint: Symmetrical patterns will sound the best, and to clear the screen and start over hit the space bar.

Good morning.

It's Monday. This should make it better...

Miike Snow

This song makes me very happy.

But I have no idea what he's singing about.

Sand Animation?

Method of Love

I've been notified that I committed the ultimate mix cd faux pas.
I put this song on two different mixes for the same person...

The good news is that it's good enough to use twice.

Summer

I can't believe how fast it's going by...where has the time gone? Such a cliche, but it's so true..!

Favorite photo so far this summer...

I have plans of going to the beach this coming Monday and I will have my polaroid camera in tow. This will be the last of my polaroid film so hopefully I'll get atleast a few good shots of something special.

Tuesday morning find...

This little film is really quite beautiful and shot entirely with a cell phone..

It's a little on the sad side though, yeah?

Mesrine: Killer Instinct

I can't wait.

Based on this guy...

Please allow me to namedrop for a moment...

My dear friend Tosh Berman is the publisher and editor for TamTam Books and they will be releasing Mesrine's memoir "The Death Instinct" very soon. Tosh has also put out Boris Vian titles as well as a major biography by Gilles Verlant on Serge Gainsbourg. TamTam's main focus is on French pop literature culture. You can learn more about Tosh at tamtambooks-tosh.blogspot.com and more about his books at tamtambooks.com.

Gorilla Gardening

Sean Martindale and Eric Cheung are artists living in Toronto. They're turning torn advertising posters on the street into street planters.

They've started a blog chronicling their project, posterpocketplants.blogspot.com, and they even have templates you can download that explain how to make the planters.

It seems artists from other cities and communities are joining in on the fun...

Who wants to try one with me here in LA? I seriously doubt anyone would really try to stop us. We could use the little plants they sell at the dollar store...

And if anyone else out there reading this is inspired to do this please email me your photos. I would love to see them!

Bakerella

I've decided it's time to reacquaint myself with a pan or two so today I've been searching for inspirational recipes online. I'm not sure if I've ever blogged about food before but I found this dessert recipe just now that made my heart beat faster.

Piepops??? What? Could it get any cuter than that? A pie bite. On a stick. A perfectly portioned guilt free iddybit of heaven. This is my public pledge to master the piepop by the end of summer.

I found this recipe and a ton more at Bakerella.blogspot.com. The directions are easy to follow and the photos are great...!!!

Dolly

An idol. An icon. And as American as apple pie..

Tuesday, August 4, 2009

Whoa.

Monday, August 3, 2009

Oops.

The champions.

How long do you think they practiced...?

And when exactly is a "dj team" needed?

Little Dragon

One of my absolute favorites. I love Yukimi Nagano's voice. This video is a double threat, also acting as a pilot for the short film "Dreams from the Woods." A shadow puppet theater featuring the little girl, the big bird and the skeleton. It's directed by Johannes Nyholm and Yukimi is one of the puppet masters.

This song is off of their self titled album released in 2007. If you don't have it yet you'd better get on that asap.

Passion Pit

I heard they're being called the "new MGMT." I find this a bit ridiculous considering didn't MGMT really only get big last year? And that's here in LA...which means they're probably just now reaching the masses in mid America.

That aside, the way they got their start is actually pretty cool. Michael Angelakos originally created the Chunk of Change EP as a Valentine’s Day gift for his girlfriend, which then somehow spread throughout his college campus (that being Emerson College in Boston), and next thing you know, Manners (Passion Pit’s first full-length) was one of the most anticipated releases of 2009.

Now that is a Valentine's Day present. Fellas take note.
