Estevan Oriol

"Cheap photos aren't good and good photos aren't cheap."

Do a search on youtube for Walrus TV... they profiled and interviewed a ton of other artists as well.

Grace Jones

You might have to sit down for this one. It's not so much the performance per se, although her costume is on a whole different level, it's more about what an epic mash up this is...

Grace Jones. Hollywood Bowl of all places 7/26/09. Doing a cover of Edith Piaf's "La Vie En Rose."

I found this version of the original that has the lyrics translated to English...

The "perfect" itunes equalizer

This was emailed to me by a friend who undoubtedly knows his shit. I tried it, and I gotta say...it really does sound better.

From itunes, open the equalizer, and from the pop-up menu select “Make Preset.” Call it “Perfect,” because it is, and set the following levels from left to right (skip the Preamp section):

db +3, +6, +9, +7, +6, +5, +7, +9, +11, +8 db

Enjoy!

Nancy Wilson

Before the Whitneys and the Mariahs and the Christinas, there was a Nancy...

Invader

This is a preview video For Invader's TOP 10 showing this month at Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York. To me, this is a very rare and special kind of artist. He combines math and technical strategy with creativity and imagination, using both sides of the brain to create something really unique...

I quite enjoy his take on things...

Rosemarie Fiore

Her firework drawings are created by containing and controlling firework explosions. I had no idea fireworks left such an interesting and colorful footprint...

"I bomb blank sheets of paper with different fireworks including color smoke bombs, jumping jacks, monster balls, fountains, magic whips, spinning carnations, ground blooms, rings of fire, and lasers. As I work, I create imagery by controlling the chaotic nature of the explosions in upside-down containers. When the paper becomes saturated in color, dark and burned, I take it back to my studio and collage blank paper circles onto the image to establish new planes and open up the composition. I then continue to bomb the pieces. These actions are repeated a number of times. The final works contain many layers of collaged explosions and are thick and heavy."

Love!!!

Picasso's light graffiti

To be honest, I'm not sure if I've ever seen a photograph of Picasso before...

"In 1949, LIFE photographer Gjon Mili visited Picasso in Vallauris, France. He showed Pablo some photographs of ice skaters with tiny lights affixed to their skates jumping in the dark. Picasso was immediately inspired, these photos were the result."

Proof the internet isn't completely evil.

And I love the DIYness. No budget? No problem! You might want to watch this one on mute though...

Home is where the heart is.

Beautifully written..

I highly recommend you open another window, log into your netflix account and add this film to the top of your queue.

Swoon.

This guy killed it at the Hollywood Bowl Sunday night...

Except he performed with a full orchestra. I took a little snippet...

Please don't laugh at how far away my seats where.
It's not against copyright laws if it's not the whole song, right?

Get ready for your solo Olenka!

This is an ad for a language center in St. Petersburg which uses American music to teach English.

Genius!

Impressive.

This girl invented the mom dance before it was even the mom dance. I'd like to see a "where are they now" with these two...

Wait... do we have the OG Lady Gaga here?
Check out her little move at 0:43.

MJ Flash mob

These are two performances made at Segels Torg and the Central Station in Sweden (a third installment was planned to happen at Stureplan late last night).
You know how much I love it when this kinda stuff happens...

The dance collective Bounce came up with the idea and invited the public to a short choreographed session before hitting the streets. FUN!!!

For the record.

This is the version I'm most interested in hearing today..

This is great.

And hopefully a little true.

Mexico Builds Border Wall To Keep Out US Assholes

Golden

A little Jilly from Philly..

It's totally Automatic.

My normal morning routine starts with a bleary eyed stumble to the kitchen to turn on some music, make some coffee and decide what to have for breakfast. I let itunes shuffle take the reigns of setting the mood and tone for the next vital hour.

The solo kitchen dance party got started a little earlier than usual today...

Their synchronized dance moves are on fire.
ps..
I used to think this was a dude singing. Come on...admit it. You did too.

State of Mind

I'm pickin' up what you're puttin' down Raul.

He's got two albums out. The first was released in 2005 and is titled "State of Mind." The next, "A World Within a World" was released in 2007. I wonder if we'll hear anything new from him in 2009?

Let's go for a walk.

Happy 4th of July!!

This is pretty much how it goes down in my neighborhood every year. Gotta love Echo Park..

Well played Evian.

Well played indeed.
