Groove Thang

I woke up today with this song in my head.

Is Showtime at the Apollo still on?

I want this guy's job.

Although I'm not really sure exactly what his job is. What I do know about him is that he roams about Europe taking pictures of the most fashionable and glamorous people I've ever seen. I have a secret (not so secret anymore) hope that one day I will be strolling down the street and he'll stop me to take my picture. After he gushes about how fabulous my outfit is I'll respond with "Oh, this old thing..?" Then I'll lean against the wall and stare into the lense with as much disinterest as I can muster.
Take a look-see...

Seelenluft - Manila

So this Swedish Producer Beat Soler goes on vacation to LA with his laptop and records an ultra-cute deep jazzy hip hop track on the street with 12 year old (!) Compton rapper Michael Smith. He records his simple and child-like story about a plane full of people dancing as they are crashing to their doom. It's funky. It's brilliant. I love it.

redo

I already posted this once but took it down shortly after because I felt guilty about it. The world doesn't need another Perez Hilton and I only want to put out positive things....but I've weighed the issue and since I am a hairdresser I get a free pass on this one:

Dear Kanye,

What the fuckity fuck is going on with your hair?? It's a fro mullet. A frollet? Whatever it is, it's not working. I know I know...you're crossing lines and building bridges between hipsters and hip hop but even the hipsters know better than to rock a mullet anymore. That ship sailed 5 years ago.

p.s. I loved your "Flashing Lights" video but sometimes when I hear that song now I have to turn it off because I get scared.

Infectious

Today my friend David sent me an itunes gift. Usually I need to hear a song a few times to fall in love with it. Not this time. Of course...I AM especially partial to songs with hand clapping...

Advertising is rarely this good.

Sony Bravia has BEAUTIFUL commercials.

Love the Jose Gonzalez. As a side note, he is the reason I wanted to learn how to play guitar...

Kozyndan

The other day I stumbled across a little pocket art book by Kozyndan called "The Garden of Watery Delights." Kozyndan are a husband and wife team that illustrate together. How cool is that? Their work is whimsical and fun, and from what I've seen mostly involves either bunny rabbits or sea creatures. And the book? It followed me home and is now resting comfortably on my bookshelf between Das Energi and Miranda July.

Well played.

101 things to do for free

Last night Julie came over for our first ever "Let's write a song" session. I think we're onto something. We may not have written Billboard's next number 1, but you know something magical is happening when your coffee table looks like this...

Change is here.

I work part time in West Hollywood at a book store called Book Soup. Yesterday I listened to President Obama's (!!!) acceptance speech on the radio while sitting at the front counter. Very old timey style. This is what I looked at while our country took a collective sigh of relief...

Losing my blog virginity.

I figure blogging is kinda like myspace or facebook, but on a turbo supercharged doplar 10,000 Xtreme level. I'll be surprised if any of this is interesting to anyone but myself...
