Dan Bergeron
I'm loving these portraits from his Face of the City project...
His work is insightful, often socially conscious and impressively chronicled...check it out here.

California Soul
Is it really December 18th? I just want to make sure because it was 85 degrees today in LA. This song felt very appropriate...
God bless the west coast...and God bless the Angelenos I see around town still sporting their scarves and sweaters regardless of the temperature. A true testament to a city's collective dedication to fashion and their willingness to suffer for it!

In case you missed it...
Zero 7 was on Morning Becomes Eclectic today promoting their new album Yeah Ghost, released in September of this year.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Material girl forever.
Italian Vanity Fair has a sneak peak of Dolce & Gabbana's Spring/Summer 2010 ad campaigns featuring Madonna shot by Steven Klein...
What do you think?
I think she looks like an Italian movie star...
How strange is it to see her eat pasta, wash dishes and peel onions!

City life improved...
These Woolly pockets are soft sided breathable water-proof nests for growing plants vertically or horizontally indoors or outdoors.
They're perfect for creating urban gardens where you have space and desire to garden but no land to garden in.
A cool fact about breathable containers...when the roots sense air they do something called air pruning. This is the natural process of stopping their own growth when they sense they've reached the limits of their space. This keeps the roots healthy and stops plants from becoming root-bound by growing in continuing circles as they do in non-breathable containers such as clay pots.
(I am now sending out a silent apology to all my plants living in clay pots.)
Hung in clusters or individually, these are such a beautiful way to show off your green thumb!

FAIL.
Watching this video made me so uncomfortable I had to watch it in increments.
They're dead serious, by the way.
So the idea is that full frontal hugging leads to sexual temptation. The Christian side hug ensures that the genitals of unmarried Christians never align.
Is that The Imperial March from Star Wars they're sampling? You know, under the Christian sounds of gunshots and sirens?
But my favorite part of all is that they are "rough riders filled with Christ's love." Maybe someone should explain to them what a rough rider is...?

Madame Tutli Putli
Settle in...this one's almost 20 minutes long! But soooo worth it if you appreciate stop motion animation. This film was the winner of the Canal Award for best short film at the Cannes Film Festival.
Madame Tutli-Putli travels alone on the night train, weighed down with her all her earthly possessions and the ghosts of her past, she faces both the kindness and menace of strangers. Finding herself caught up in a desperate metaphysical adventure, adrift between real and imagined worlds. she confronts her demons.
Two Cars, One Night
This short film was nominated for the 2005 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short.
Written and directed by Taika Waititi. BOY, her feature film inspired by Two Cars, One Night, is due for release in April 2010.
While waiting for their parents, two boys and a girl meet in the carpark of a rural pub. What at first seems to be a relationship based on rivalry soon develops into a close friendship as we learn that love can be found in the most unlikely of places.

Ra Ra ah ah ah Roma romo mance GaGa ooh la la
You and me could write a bad romance. Not you of course, but there are certainly a few out there who fit the bill.
I want your ugly, I want your disease...
psssst... I highly suggest this one on full screen mode.
The trannified credit card swiped blush, the Carrera's, the thriller claws, twitchy fingers and claps...that PERFECT shade of champagne blush hair...and the shoes...
Work!

A different kind of people watching.
Take a portrait. Every single day. For one year. Most of us don't have the motivation but that's what Mercedes McAndrew is doing and has a blog to prove it, limagequotidienne.blogspot.com.
I love people watching and sometimes get caught staring...
I like to make up stories about where they're coming from, where they're going...
I think there is a voyeur in all of us...
Photos of strangers posted online is a great way not to get caught!

Cover art.
I work part time at a book store. Did you know? It's called Book Soup and it's the most amazing independent book store in the world, smack dab in the middle of LA.
The cover of a book is a lot like the label on a bottle of wine...it can really make or break the deal in terms of peaking your interest of what's inside. Here are a few of my favorites from covers.fwis.com, a website dedicated to....
you guessed it...
book covers.
From top to bottom: Hundred Hit Wonder, author - K.I. Borrowman, Everything You Know, author - Zoe Heller, Dry Storeroom No. 1: The Secret Life of the Natura, author - Richard Fortey, Strange Flesh, author - William Logan, On Seeing and Noticing, author - Alain de Botton, Leather Maiden, author - Joe R. Lansdale, How to Cook Your Daughter, author - Jessica Hendra
